What is the procedure for Tax-Free Shopping?
When a tourist makes an eligible purchase of at least AED 250, the salesperson in the shop must:
- Attach a Tax-Free tag to the sales receipt.
- Scan the Tax-Free tag with the smartphone app or web portal to link the transaction to the tourist’s passport or GCC National ID card.
- Enter all of the necessary information, such as the transaction amount and the tourist’s passport or GCC National ID card details.
The VAT amount that *will be refunded to the tourist* will be displayed on the web portal or app.
Once the tags have been validated, the tourist will receive a refund of 85 percent of the VAT, less a fee of AED 4.80 for the Tax-Free tag. During the purchase and validation processes, this amount will be calculated automatically.
